​According to Mrs Orman Cooper in the Stalbridge magazine of 1902, if an accident occurs in the street and a town ambulance is not available "A gate or door must be torn from its hinges and the sufferer carried thereon". Here is her monthly advice from April 1902, entitled "Everyday Accidents"
