Stalbridge Walkers is an informal group which meets once a week, for a walk around Stalbridge.
Although initially launched in November 2007 under the ‘umbrella’ of the ‘Walking for Health Initiative’ (WHI) we have since given up that affiliation. One of the advantages of our group is that there is no ‘membership’ as such – we have grown from a shared enjoyment of gentle walking. We are fortunate in having Derek as the main leader. We usually walk for about an hour (2-3 miles) around Stalbridge, where we use pavements and local quiet roads: on occasions we venture ‘abroad’ – either using local footpaths and bridleways, or travelling to neighbouring parishes. All sporting and leisure activities have inherent hazards associated with them and walking is no exception. In spite of the safety of walkers always being of paramount concern, accidents will occasionally occur. It is important therefore that when walking with our group, each walker appreciates that they have a responsibility to identify potential hazards - walkers are to be responsible for their own safety. Our leaders are volunteers and our Group receives no financial support from any organisation. All are welcome, but regrettably the walks are NOT SUITABLE for unaccompanied children, buggies or dogs. We start our walks each Thursday from outside The Hub at 9.00 a.m. This is subject to change, so for more information please contact Derek on 01963 362906. |
