This Month’s Stalbridge Garden Society meeting was our Christmas social evening, with a florist who gave a talk and demonstration.
Georgie Newbery, from Common Farm Flowers, Wincanton, gave us a lovely demonstration, on how to make a door wreath from natural material.
Georgie talked and showed us step by step, how to create a wreath from different colour willow, then make a garland to add to it, which finished it off really well.
She grows fields of flowers to cut and use in her floristry work, and also does work shops, you can look her up on line.
The hall was decorated with Christmas table cloths, crackers, floral decorations, music, and a mouth-watering display of food, all manner of savouries, including a whole cooked fish, and then to follow a fantastic selection of sweets, pavlova, trifle’s, mince pies and cheese and biscuits.
We finished the evening with a garden quiz, thank you Ann Turnbull, and raffle. Thank you to Wendy and Karen for organising the food, Brian and Anne for sorting the drink, Marigold for the raffle, and my donation of the table decorations.
Thank you to all of you who brought in food, we had a lovely evening, it was something a bit different.
I very much hope to see you all in January 2017, the membership cost is now £10 a year, and our first speaker will be Mike Webber talking about Botanic gardens, on Thursday 12th January
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
