Stalbridge Community Volunteer Car Scheme are looking for more drivers. The closure of Stalbridge surgery threatened to make life difficult for a significant number of people who now no longer have a GP within easy reach. To help solve this community problem, the Stalbridge Community Volunteer Car Scheme (SCVCS) was created, offering door-to-door transport to doctors and hospital appointments for anyone living in Stalbridge or its neighbouring villages (whether or not they are past patients of Stalbridge Surgery). The SCVCS has been up and running since around last Christmas, and is proving a huge success, so much so that we could really use a few more drivers! This would lighten the load both for existing drivers (like me!) and also the poor administrators who are tasked with finding a driver to meet each request received. This is proving to be quite a challenge at times! It is crucial for the success of the scheme that we are able to help most of those seeking a lift, most of the time. If we let people down too often they will naturally stop asking and the project would get a bad reputation and eventually wither. We really don't want that to happen - it's already a positive resource for the community and we want to improve and extend it further. As a driver I get far more out of the scheme than I put in. I'd be surprised if you don't find the same. So why not phone our hotline and give it a try? I think you'll be glad you did! If you might be interested, please call this number and have a chat - 07152 489531. If it goes to message bank. please leave your name and a contact number, and (as passenger requests sometimes come to this number too) please mention that you're a potential driver. And - a really big Thank You! - Tony Troughton-Smith Comments are closed.
