The Stalbridge Jubilant Jubilee Parade on Sunday 5th June involves closing some roads to traffic. Essentially this is the route to and from the Hub@Stalbridge in Station Road to The Church of St. Mary and back. This road closure will last from approximately 10.30am till 11.00am for processing to the church and from 12.00 noon till 12.30pm for processing back to the hub from the church, after the Church Service. You can see below the Traffic order in place for this and the essential information this document contains. This is going to be a big parade, worthy of a queen celebrating her 70th year as monarch. Please do not park anywhere on the route for this very special day for Stalbridge.
Stalbridge Town Council have provided Union Flags for commemorating the Platinum Jubilee. The 70 flags - 1 for every year of the Queen's reign since 1952 - are now flying proudly up and down the main road through the town. The council would like to thank Stalbridge building supplies and all the helpers for putting flags in their holders, and also the residents and businesses who allowed us to fly them from their properties.

Generating some of your own electricity has never looked so appealing, so just to let everyone know that the Milborne Port and Sherborne (and surrounding villages) community solar panels scheme is still open.
- System prices have gone up by around 25%, driven by higher equipment wholesale prices and higher transport costs - However from April 1st the VAT at 5% has been removed so that's taken it slightly the other way - But energy prices have gone mad - the formal price capped prices have gone up by 54% from 1st April and look like they will go higher in October - That has meant that the return on investment on Solar PV has improved dramatically, depending on which energy price you use you are probably looking at between 2 and 4 years less than the typical payback of 11 years last year - so down to between 7 and 9 depending on prices (though it's also worth looking at them as you would a holiday or a new kitchen - A Good Thing with the bonus of a return!) - That has meant that IDDEA are inundated with enquiries so realistically any enquiry at the moment may take a couple of months before it turns into a quote rather than a couple of weeks As part of Dorset Art Weeks "A Monkey and Three Photographers" is in residence at Venue47, Thyme after time Cafe and Catering, Spire Hill Farm, Thornhill, DT10 2SG. They have photographic prints, cards and notebooks from Caroline and David Pass Photography, Perfect Printz and mixed media and jewellery from Slumbermonkey Designs. Open Monday to Friday 8am-2pm, Saturday 8am-4pm and Sunday 10am-4pm until 29th May. Visit the facebook page for more information.

Licensing of our new Rector. Our new Rector, Canon Richard Hancock will be licensed at 7.00pm on Wednesday 29 June in St Mary’s Church. We will be joined by the other churches in the Spire Hill Benefice (Stourton Caundle, Stock Gaylard, Purse Caundle and Kings Stag) as well as members of Richard’s congregations in the Sixpenny Handley benefice. We will have a full church to celebrate Richard’s arrival, three years after William left, and the service will be followed by refreshments in the School. Do come!
Bell Ringing. A quarter peal will be rung to celebrate the Jubilee. This will last about three quarters of an hour and involve continuously changing sequences. They have to start again from the beginning if anything goes wrong! Home Group. As you can imagine, ringing a quarter peal takes practice - you can’t just turn up and ring. The same applies to most activities that we enjoy and want to improve at – it would be foolish to expect to play cricket without some practice in the nets, or to put on a concert without rehearsals. The same could be said for Church. Weekly attendance is good, but it would help to understand what is going on if we met to discuss any questions and the meaning of the bible texts etc, in a friendly environment. The Home Group meets for an hour and a half at 6.45pm for 7.00pm in 1 Anglesey Cottages (next to the Fabric Shop) on Tuesdays. Even if you think it is not for you, why not give Simon Witcomb a ring on 07 989 855 582 for more information? No prior knowledge or belief is expected, just an open mind. On 3rd May in advance of the June celebrations a free Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Indoor Street Lunch Party was held for forty members of The Blackmore Vale U3A free of charge. Women came in aprons, glamorous 1950s outfits, while the men sported braces, flat caps, and cravats. While listening to music of the era members feasted on coronation chicken, gammon, salads followed by wonderful trifles. A glass of bubbly was raised to toast her Majesty the Queen and our latest new members cut a celebratory cake. This good idea was fulfilled by happy volunteers and made a great start to the forthcoming June celebrations.
For more information on the talks or for details of groups contact Susan Kidd, Chair skiddsbvu3a@gmail.com or Gill Westall bvmembership@outlook.com NEWS: The Revd Canon Richard Hancock will be the new Rector of Stalbridge. Please let a churchwarden know if you would like a lift.
