Public Health Dorset have sent out a newsletter encouraging any residents with symptoms of coronavirus to use the new NHS Test and Trace service.

NHS Test and Trace will identify those who have had close contact with people who have tested positive for coronavirus, helping to reduce the spread of the virus and save lives.

If you develop coronavirus symptoms, isolate, book a test and share contacts with the NHS Test and Trace team.

NHS Test and Trace will identify those who have had close contact with people who have tested positive for coronavirus, helping to reduce the spread of the virus and save lives.

Sam Crowe, Director of Public Health at Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Councils, said:

“As lockdown restrictions begin to ease gradually, it’s important to recognise we all need to take responsibility for controlling the spread of coronavirus. Alongside continuing effective social distancing, the NHS Test and Trace service will be key for us to contain local cases and prevent a second peak in infections.

“The instruction is clear: if you have symptoms of coronavirus, self-isolate, get tested and share your contacts with NHS Test and Trace. We’re grateful for the role our communities have played so far in following the rules and limiting the spread of COVID-19 in Dorset, so we’re urging local people to keep this up by using this new service and following any advice they are given.”

Public Health Dorset is reminding residents of what they need to do if they develop coronavirus symptoms:

Isolate: As soon as you develop symptoms – a new, continuous cough OR a high fever OR a loss/change of taste or smell – you should self-isolate. Stay at home for 7 days, and anyone else in your household should stay home for 14 days.
Test: Book a test online at uk/coronavirus or call 119 if you have no internet access. Anyone with symptoms can book a test, now including children under 5.
Results: If your test is positive, you and your household need to complete your period of isolation. If it’s negative, you can all end your isolation.
Share contacts: If your test is positive, the NHS Test and Trace service will contact you by text, email or phone to give you instructions on sharing details of places you’ve been and who you’ve been in close contact with so they can be given advice on what to do.
If you’re identified as a close contact of a positive case:

Alert: You will be contacted by NHS Track and Trace by text, email or phone call, and you’ll be told what you need to do to communicate with the service.
Isolate: You’ll be told to stay at home and self-isolate for 14 days from your last contact with the person who tested positive, even if you currently feel well, to avoid unknowingly spreading the virus. Other members of your household don’t need to self-isolate unless you have symptoms, but they should take extra care with handwashing, social distancing and avoiding contact with you.
Test if needed: If you develop symptoms, other members of your household should self-isolate immediately for 14 days. You should book a test – if it’s positive, you should stay home for 7 days and you will need to follow the process for identifying contacts. If it is negative, you must still complete your 14-day self-isolation period because the virus may not be detectable yet.

All Quiet on The Western Front?

Dorset remains closed this bank holiday weekend!

With the national lockdown still in place, it’s really important that you continue to stay at home this weekend. Coronavirus is still a threat to everyone – anyone can get it and anyone can spread it.
  • Our car parks, play areas and parks remain closed. We will of course review this in light of any government announcements on Sunday, but please do not expect the immediate reopening of these facilities following any lifting of restrictions.

  • We know that Dorset is popular with visitors but we must re-open our popular locations in a way that means social distancing measures can continue, people’s safety is prioritised and the fight against COVID-19 continues.

We’re asking Dorset residents to take their daily exercise from home. Use local roads, paths and open spaces and please don’t travel to your favourite parks, beaches or beauty spots. The majority of car parks will be closed and Dorset Police will be checking that people are travelling for essential reasons only.

We’re also asking people who live outside of Dorset not to visit the county until a later date when restrictions are lifted.

Thank you for staying at home so far – it really has made a huge difference. All of your favourite places in Dorset will still be here when restrictions are eased, so please keep it up.
Stay at home this weekend!

STALBRIDGE VE DAY MAY 8TH

7/5/2020

Picture
The Stalbridge British Legion is inviting people of all generations and communities to take part in the activities on 8th May and pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of the entire Second World War generation. As society faces some of the most challenging times since of the Second World War, it is now more important than ever to unite in recognition of service to the nation, just as communities did 75 years ago.
Royal British Legion Schedule
  • 1100-1102 - Two Minute Silence
  • 1115-1200 - The Royal British Legion VE75 Livestream
  • 2000-2110 - VE Day 75: The People's Celebration, BBC One
  • 2100 - 'We'll Meet Again' Singalong

Two Minute Silence
The Legion is calling on people to join in a national moment of reflection and Remembrance at 11am on Friday 8th May and pause for a Two Minute Silence, not only in recognition of the service and sacrifice of the Second World War generation, but also to reflect on the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on so many lives across the world.
People are invited to take part in the Silence in whatever way they feel appropriate be that standing at their window, stepping outside their home, whilst remaining distanced from others, or taking the opportunity for a quiet moment of reflection. To build momentum towards this important moment, please share this with your communities and encourage everyone to come together in Remembrance at 11am.
The Royal British Legion Livestream
Following the Silence the Legion is hosting a VE Day livestream, sharing stories and memories from those who served and sacrificed during the Second World War. The Legion is inviting people to grab a cup of tea and join us for the livestream as we bring the World War Two generation together with today's generation to chat about their experiences.
Hosted by TV presenter Sonali Shah, the programme will feature contributions from social historian Julie Summers and cook and influencer Melissa Helmsley. The stream will be live from 11.15am on the Legion's website rbl.org.uk/veday75.
VE Day 75: The People's Celebration BBC ONE: 20:00 - 21:10
To mark the 75th anniversary of VE day, in these unprecedented times, the BBC in partnership with The Royal British Legion will honour and celebrate the World War Two Generation with an evening of memories and music. Featuring some of those who remember this historic day, together with Britain's favourite performers who will entertain us with popular songs of the era. In a fitting finale at 9.00 pm we will see the nation unite for a very special rendition of "We'll Meet Again" as we all give thanks to our veterans and remember our loved ones.
'We'll Meet Again' Singalong
Lyrics available on The Royal British Legion website here - VE singalong
VE Day 75 Learning Pack
Designed for 7-14 year olds the learning pack includes first-hand accounts from the Second World War generation, veteran interviews and a range of activities to allow families to explore and commemorate VE Day 75 together. People can follow the activity on social media using #VEDay75 and #VEDay75Live during the livestream.

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day

Keep smiling through
Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies chase
Those dark clouds far away

And I will just say hello
To the folks that you know
Tell them you won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That, as I saw you go
You were singing this song

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day

And I will just say hello
To the folks that you know
Tell them you won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That, as I saw you go
You were singing this song

We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again
Some sunny day
