Stalbridge Community Information Office is celebrating 20 years of voluntary service to the residents of Stalbridge. Back in 1997 the office was located in the High Street, next to Evans & Co. There was a public telephone, provided by Dorset Police and the notice board hung on the wall to the right of the main window.
The office has moved twice since it's inception and is now located in the hub@stalbridge, just off Station Road. A lot has changed in the last two decades, but some things remain the same. Original volunteers Joy Rabbets (Hilary Townsend) and Bill Batty-Smith are still volunteering! Come and help them celebrate, along with the current team at the Community Information Office 20th Anniversary event at the hub on Saturday 8th April from 10.00am till 2.00pm. There will be a pop up café and raffle, with profits donated to the Somerset & Dorset Air Ambulance, and the Library will be extending their opening hours for the day so do come along and support your local volunteers. Various groups and organisations who use the hub will be showcasing their activities, including Age Concern, The Blackmore Vale Lions, Blackmore Vale Family History Group, Mindful, SCARS, Stalbridge Archive Group, Stalbridge History Group, Stalbridge Singers, Stalbright, St. Mary's Church and University of the 3rd Age, as well as The Community Information Office itself and Stalbridge Community Library.
