Stalbridge Hall are hosting a "Call My Bluff" evening on Friday 17th March in aid of hall funds.
Call My Bluff is a fun quiz, You are shown an object, 3 explanations are given as to it's use and you have to guess which one is correct. Here is an example...Study the object below, then choose which definition is correct...
So, which one is correct? We will reveal the correct answer on Saturday 11th March, but in the meantime why not pop down to The Post Office, Candy's Newsagents or Stalbridge Garage to purchase your tickets for the Stalbridge Hall "Call My Bluff" Evening? Tickets include Supper, Dessert and Coffee...
Supper consists of Jacket Potato, Cheese, beans or Coleslaw. Dessert is Apple pie or Trifle. Supper will be served at half time. There is also a bar and a raffle, Proceeds to hall. Call my Bluff is run by an outside organisation (not the hall committee) They will be collecting donations for Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance. Tickets are £10 each and the evening starts at 7.30pm in Stalbridge Hall, Lower Road and after a few hours you realise that the timetable at the bus stop was printed 5 years ago and you need to start walking... First Group, who run the 58A service have, for whatever reason, put a new TEMPORARY timetable on their website, valid until the 1st April. Unfortunately they haven't updated the timetables on the bus stops, so a lot of people are waiting for buses that are never going to turn up. So if you want to use the temporary timetables for this service please click on the button below to visit the BUSES page at Stalbridge Info Community website. You'll be able to view and download them or print them out. If you don't have access to a printer, just pop down to the Hub@stalbridge and pick one up. Damory buses, who run the X10 service, seem to be keeping their timetable at the moment. You can view, download and print the X10 timetable by clicking the above button.
This week is 'National Pie Week' (6th-12th March) so if you like a good hearty pie to eat then Thyme After Time Cafe will be making sure that every day this week we will be having a daily delicious homemade pie available which you can either have on its own or with jacket potato, chips or our homemade bubble and squeak and vegetables. The Hub@Stalbridge hosts a celebration of voluntary service to the Stalbridge community It's been around for 20 years, but how did it all start ?Its Inception:
In 1997, responding to concerns of many residents about a marked lack of police presence and its consequences on the streets of Stalbridge, including under-age drinking, vandalism etc., a group of residents set about forming an action group. Following financial input from Dorset Police, the District and Town Councils and local donations, the Community Information Office was opened in the High Street. Initially, 20 volunteers were trained. Reflecting the needs of the community, this office became the venue for regular Police surgeries and contact point for Home-Watch Coordinators and the Police Ringmaster Scheme; planning information, lost property, and advice services regarding Help the Aged, Environmental Health and Waste disposal and many other advice services. It quickly won several awards and has been replicated in many parts of Dorset. The team’s base has moved three times since inception and is now located at The Hub, Station Road, Stalbridge, DT10 2RG.
Currently:
Clearly, every organisation must reflect the changes in their environment and now, it’s purpose is “… to provide assistance to the public needing access to all levels of Council assistance, eg. Planning, Benefits, Recycling, Highways etc. and police matters. To provide travel information: eg. Public transport timetables, local walks and tourist information. To provide access to our public access computers, wifi, printer and laminator and the range of surgeries now available.” The office is still staffed by volunteers and we are always on the lookout for more help.
As a result of this close liaison with the Police, Stalbridge is now considered to be one of the safest and most pleasant towns in North Dorset.
Here is a message from Stalbridge Town Council: "There has been a recent incident of sheep worrying by dogs off leads in Stalbridge. It is vital that you keep your dog on the lead around livestock, even if you can usually trust it to come to call. It is every dog’s instinct to chase, even if they are usually obedient and good with other animals. It is an offence to allow a dog to worry sheep. Worrying includes attacking or chasing sheep and, in some circumstances, farmers are legally entitled to destroy dogs if they are endangering their sheep." The Stalbridge Players respectfully ask you to assemble at Gray's of Stalbridge to acquire your ration ticket to view the stage production of "Dad's Army"
Rationed tickets are available from Gray's Emporium of Fine Gifts and Homewares,
